The Book of the Dead
Per-t em hru · The Chapters of Coming Forth by Day
For some fifteen hundred years, Egyptians were buried with a book of spells, hymns and passwords to carry them through the underworld. Its most famous scene is the Judgment: the heart of the dead weighed against the feather of Ma’at before Osiris, with Thoth recording the verdict and the devourer Ammit waiting for the unworthy.
