AI Features and Bookworm Agents
What goes to AI providers
When you use an AI feature, what you send it (your message, the page or book text it needs, and for some features an image) is sent to the AI provider that runs it. Our own features use providers such as Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, fal and ElevenLabs. A Bookworm agent uses the provider you choose with your own key (for example Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, Perplexity, Meta, NVIDIA, Hugging Face, OpenRouter or Virtuals), so what you say to it is processed under that provider's terms and privacy policy. We do not sell this content or use it to train our own models.
What a Bookworm agent keeps
- Private to you: your chat history, the memories it saves about you, the lessons it writes, private journal entries and the conversations behind them, its activity log, your bookshelf and your settings.
- Public and with the worm: its name, soul, skills, level and public journal milestones. Each journal entry is fingerprinted (hashed) and the fingerprints may be recorded on the Flow blockchain.
- Keys and secrets: AI keys, voice keys, channel tokens, email and phone credentials, and a spending wallet's key are encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and never shown back to anyone.
- When it changes hands: everything private to you, all keys and secrets, channels, email and phone, wallets and payment settings are deleted from the agent.
Voice, camera and channels
Talking out loud streams your voice to the realtime voice provider you chose, and spoken replies are produced by your chosen provider. In the AR view, a frame from your camera is sent with a message so your worm can see what you ask about; frames are not stored by us. If you connect Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, an AgentMail inbox or a Twilio number, the messages, email addresses and phone numbers involved are processed by those services and by us to deliver replies, and your agent only answers you by default.
Identity and payments on public blockchains
ERC-8004 registrations, x402 payments (received or spent), wallet addresses and NFT transfers are recorded on public blockchains (Flow, Base and others). That data is public, can be linked to your wallet, and cannot be deleted by us or by you. Payment verification and settlement are handled by an x402 facilitator.
Connections from other AI apps
If you create a connection key for Claude or another MCP app, we store only a fingerprint (hash) of the key, linked to your wallet address. What you ask through that connection is processed like any other conversation with your worm.
Reading the News Stand
We count reads of News Stand editions as an anonymous total per edition; counting a read does not record who you are.
Your choices
You can remove keys, channels, wallets and connection keys in your worm's Settings at any time, deny any action your agent asks to take, delete its memories, and export its data from My Bookworms. To ask us to delete other personal information, contact us using the details below.
