The ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, added hymns that were subsequently added to the scripture. In 1708, Guru Gobind Singh Ji declared it the eternal Guru of the Sikhs. The scripture contains 1,430 Angs (pages) and includes compositions of six Sikh Gurus: - Guru Nanak Dev Ji (founder of Sikhism) - Guru Angad Dev Ji - Guru Amar Das Ji - Guru Ram Das Ji - Guru Arjan Dev Ji - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji The text also includes writings of 15 bhagats (saints) from various religious and social backgrounds, including Hindu and Muslim saints, demonstrating Sikhism's inclusive philosophy. The verses are arranged by musical ragas (melodies) and are meant to be sung as devotional hymns. The central teachings include: - Oneness of God (Ik Onkar) - Equality of all humans - Rejection of caste system - Honest living and sharing with others - Meditation on God's name - Service to humanity The Guru Granth Sahib is considered a living Guru and is treated with the utmost reverence in Sikh tradition.
